Digital Oasis for King Salman Park: Crafting Anticipation and Excitement

Crafting the online presence for King Salman Park involved transforming a vision into a digital reality. This ambitious project, spearheaded by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, seeks to redefine Riyadh's landscape and become a hub for sports, culture, arts, and recreation in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

The phased approach prioritized an immersive online experience, introducing features like full-screen visuals, scroll-into-view videos, a cursor takeover CTA, and an interactive timeline. Collaboration with the client during workshops ensured adaptability to the park's evolving vision.

The website not only showcases the park's engineering marvels but also serves as a testament to successful collaboration, capturing the essence of King Salman Park. It invites users on a digital journey, building anticipation and excitement for the dynamic oasis project that aims to elevate Riyadh's global standing.

My Role:

‍In the pivotal Phase 2 as a UX Designer, I played a crucial role in envisioning and designing the digital presence of King Salman Park. This involved engaging in client workshops, designing user flows, site maps, and wireframes, conducting extensive research, and refining components for a seamless user interface. The goal was to shape an immersive and anticipatory online experience for the ambitious project.

The Challenge:

‍Designing the King Salman Park digital experience presented a formidable challenge: creating a captivating and seamless first impression for visitors to the region's largest urban park. This included applying cutting-edge UX and UI principles, future-proofing designs, and streamlining the ticket booking process to enable effortless transactions. The challenge was not only to build a website but to craft a digital gateway that mirrors the grandeur of King Salman Park, enticing users to embark on a transformative online journey.

The Solution:

‍The project initiation involved client workshops to discern business goals, followed by comprehensive research and competitor analysis. The design phase focused on crafting a coherent site map and engaging wireframes that prioritized dynamic storytelling components. An interactive timeline was introduced to showcase the foundation's progress over the years. Future-ready designs included a versatile booking system and an efficient Contact Us hub. The UI development phase embraced vibrant colors, seamlessly translating the immersive experience onto both desktop and mobile platforms, ensuring a captivating journey through the King Salman Park Foundation's online portal. Despite our best efforts, the challenge of clarity persisted, prompting a reevaluation of the foundational functions integral to the website. To surmount this challenge, we delved into understanding the intricacies and proposed innovative solutions. Our aim was clear: to structure an Information Architecture (IA) that not only resolved clarity issues but also laid the groundwork for a seamlessly navigable and user-friendly structure for the King Salman Park website.

With a solid foundation in information structure, we seamlessly transitioned into the design phase, prioritizing wireframes that not only delineated functionality but also served as dynamic storytelling components. The emphasis was on creating an immersive user experience, compelling visitors to eagerly anticipate the park's grand reveal. This drive inspired the integration of highly interactive elements, striking a balance between functionality and seamless user interfaces.

In the wireframe stage, meticulous attention was given to combining storytelling and information dissemination through components that are not just informative but also visually inspiring. The outcome was a series of full-screen components featuring text reveal hover states, expanding images, parallax effects, and interactive maps. These design elements were strategically chosen to engage users, conveying the story of King Salman Park in a captivating and interactive manner, setting the stage for an unforgettable digital experience.

Following a comprehensive review of wireframes with the client, a new challenge arose

Crafting an immersive storytelling piece to showcase the Foundation's progress throughout the years and pave the way for future milestones.

The solution? The introduction of an interactive timeline. This feature was purposefully designed to commence from the project's inception, guiding users through a visually compelling journey spanning historical accomplishments to anticipated future milestones.

The interactive timeline comprises expansive cards, each adorned with text and diverse assets. As users scroll horizontally, these elements unfold, offering a high level of interactivity and immersion. This design not only provides an engaging experience but also serves as a visual narrative, vividly illustrating the past, present, and future of the King Salman Park project. The timeline emerges as a dynamic and informative component, seamlessly integrating the rich history and future aspirations of the Foundation into the user's digital journey.

‍Crafting Future-Ready Designs for King Salman Park's Diverse Needs

Recognizing the need for a versatile booking system, we conceptualized a forward-looking design to showcase and facilitate bookings for upcoming events at King Salman Park. This not only addressed immediate needs but also positioned the foundation to capitalize on future revenue opportunities seamlessly.

Furthermore, our design thinking extended to the Contact Us hub, a centralized communication point engineered for efficiency. This hub aimed to streamline communication based on user types, minimizing manual input. Users could easily categorize their inquiries, ensuring swift and targeted responses. By integrating these functional components, our design not only enhanced the user experience but also laid the groundwork for the foundation's sustained success and adaptability to evolving needs.

Harmonizing Vision: Crafting Vibrant UI for King Salman Park Foundation

With the client's vision firmly embraced, the UI development phase unfolded collaboratively. The Lead UI designer and I worked in tandem, meticulously translating wireframes into seamless and inspiring user interfaces. Drawing inspiration from the foundation's colorful logo, gradients were strategically employed to establish a subconscious connection to the brand. Shapes became instrumental in forming a background that seamlessly merged the diverse pages together.

Designing the King Salman Park Foundation's website meant placing immense emphasis on vibrant colors, ensuring they pulsated throughout the digital landscape. The carefully curated gradients and shapes not only added aesthetic flair but also played a pivotal role in facilitating seamless transitions from one section to another. Acknowledging the importance of mobile accessibility, our solutions were crafted with a 'mobile-first' approach, ensuring a smooth translation of the vibrant and immersive experience onto smaller screens. This deliberate strategy guaranteed that users, whether on desktop or mobile, encountered the same captivating and seamless journey through the King Salman Park Foundation's online portal.

Post the client's approval and sign-off on our designs, my involvement in the project transitioned into a crucial support role for the development team. This phase involved comprehensive documentation of all functional specifications, ensuring a clear and cohesive roadmap for the implementation of our design vision. This meticulous documentation not only served as a guide for the development team but also safeguarded the integrity of the envisioned user experience.

Beyond documentation, my commitment extended to providing ongoing support to the development team throughout the implementation phase. Addressing queries, clarifying design principles, and ensuring a seamless translation of our collective vision into a functional and user-friendly website were central to this ongoing support role.
